Night dive in Nosy Be: discover a reef with other animals, other colors.. a different activity.
Diving in a different world : the species active during the day (daytime species) are asleep and hidden. You'll will see others species, the ones active during the night (nocturnal), usually hidden during day.
Interresting thing : Do the same site night and day, the difference is impressive. Corals, fish, diurnal molluscs are replaced by nocturnal ones. The majority of crustaceans are nocturnal, Their activity at night is amazing.
We are one of the few diving centers on Nosy Be to offer night dives throughout the year (depending on weather conditions).
At night we're diving between Nosy Be and Sakatia island, in a sheltered and currentless area. It is not necessary to dive deep to appreciate the nocturnal species.
Principle of fluorescent night diving: night dive with a torch emitting blue light of a precise wavelength, which is "exciting" the emission of fluorescence of animals / vegetals. To be able to observe these colors, you have a yellow filter on the mask, to block the light emitted by the torch. Clearly, you are diving into darkness, and you can only see the fluorescent light emitted by living beings. Impressive at first, wonderful after a while.
Do not compare with night dives with ultraviolet lamps. UV only allows you to see some fluorescences in yellow tones. Blue light is showing you all the colors of fluorescence emitted by living beings, many yellow, but also orange, red..etc
We are one of the few diving centers on Nosy Be to offer night dives in fluorescence (depending on weather conditions), on spots in protected areas, without current, between Nosy Be and Sakatia.
some photos samples of subjects lit in white light , then in blue light and yellow filter
